The holiday season is such a mix of emotions, isn’t it? There’s the undeniable cheer—the twinkling lights, festive gatherings, and traditions that bring comfort and joy. But there’s also the challenge—grief for what’s changed, the stress of what’s expected, and the fatigue that creeps in when life feels heavier than it should.
As I’ve been navigating this first holiday season in our new home, I’ve felt this duality more deeply than ever. There are moments of delight—like snagging a special ornament to commemorate our first Christmas here in Brunswick—and moments where I’m stretched and tapped out from the demands of solo parenting, unpacking, and adjusting.
In the midst of all of it, I’ve been holding onto the small but meaningful things that remind me to keep going. These little joys and practices have not only helped me adapt to this new season but have also brought me glimmers of holiday hope and warmth.
So, in the spirit of sharing what’s keeping me grounded, here’s what’s saving my life this holiday season:
Holiday Markets and Local Events
From the Mistletoe Market on St. Simons to exploring our first downtown Friday, stepping out into our new community has been such a gift. These outings have helped me feel more connected to our new home, while also giving us fun family traditions to build upon.Christmas Movies and Cozy Nights In
Nothing beats snuggling up on the couch with the kids, watching classic holiday movies. There’s something about the simple joy of sharing old traditions and twinkling Christmas tree lights that make life feel a little less overwhelming.Documenting Daily Joys
Whether it’s snapping a quick photo at the park with the kids, jotting down a meaningful moment, or writing about small wins in my journal, capturing these little moments of joy has been such a grounding practice. It’s a way to remind myself that even in challenging seasons, there’s still so much good to be found.Holiday Reading
I shared my Christmas TBR list on Substack Notes recently, and diving into these festive reads has been such a treat. There’s something so comforting about curling up with a good book that’s brimming with holiday cheer—it’s a simple way to slow down and savor the season.Leaning Into Advent
This year, Advent feels more meaningful than ever. Reflecting on the hope, peace, and joy that Christ brings has been an anchor, especially on the hard days. It’s a reminder that even when I feel stretched thin, His presence is enough.
As we enter deeper into this Christmas season, I hope these simple joys remind you that it’s okay to hold both cheer and challenge in the same hand. The holidays don’t have to look perfect to be meaningful.
What’s saving your life this season? I’d love to hear the little things bringing you joy and grounding your spirit.
What Brought Me Joy ✨
Ellianos & Hobby Lobbby. Last Friday, I tried Ellianos for the first time while enroute to Hobby Lobby and to pick up some houshold orders. It was pretty good! There’s something about treating yourself on a Friday at the end of a long week.
Pizza and Friday family holiday movie might. Friday family movie nights are becoming one of my favorite holiday rhythms. For the last few weeks, we’ve been trying out local pizza places to find our favorites. This week we tried Broomelli Boys and it didn’t disappoint.
Slow Saturday mornings. After a few weekends of Saturday morning outings, I was glad to spend this one at home and curled up with my favorite things on Saturday mornings — coffee, books, and magazines. Saturdays are my Sabbath, and I do my best to stay cozy and lounge around as much as the kids allow.
Much needed me-time. This Sunday, I snuck away for a few hours to the coffee-shop for some much needed me-time. I enjoyed a gingerbread latte and molasses cookie while I tucked into and caught up one of my buddy reads for the month.

I came across this podcast episode with Maryanne Challies Helms on aging with grace. So much wisdom was shared on aging and evolving within yourself, parenting, and marriage as you get older and experience more of life. It’s also short and quick, so it’s perfect to listen to while knocking out a load of laundry or tackling the dishes.
