This week was a busy one! My sister and her family came to visit, I ended up coming down with a brief stomach bug, and my dad flew into town yesterday. On top of that, my husband and I have been decluttering and packing as much as we can before he starts his next career venture this upcoming week. With that being said, this week’s (Joy)Cap is short and sweet.
What Brought Me Joy ✨
My oldest baby lost his first tooth 🥹. No one ever warns you about the milestones that your babies will reach that you will be unprepared for. My three-year-old lost his first tooth this past Saturday, and I was not ready. I actually started to panic a little, being that it was unexpected, and I didn’t think kids tend to lose one this young 🤔. But my worries were eased with an emergency call to the dentist. My mama-heart just wasn’t ready!
Decorating my Kindle for Gilmore Girl watching season. September 1st is the start of cozy season, and the time when I start re-watching Gilmore Girls and start prepping for fall. I’ve been collecting fall stickers for the last few months over on Etsy, and was excited to give my Kindle a little refresh for Gilmore Girl watching season.
My sissy and her family coming to visit. I haven’t seen my sister in person since she came and help me for a week when the twins were born. I got time to spend time with her, my brother-in-law, and my nephews and niece, and it was a joy seeing my kids play and interact with our family.
Spending the morning in bed. Thursday night I had came down with a little stomach bug, so I was thankful when my husband volunteered that next morning to get up with the kids so I could stay in bed and get some rest. I am always grateful for any extra moments I get to spend snuggling underneath the covers, even when I’m not feeling the best.
Currently Reading 📚
This week I finished When in Rome by Sarah Adams.
I’m slowly working my way through Sacred Work by author Peggy Bodde and The Mission of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson.
With fall and the holiday season and so much change and transition around the corner, I’ve been thinking about how I can make the “ber” months special for the kids. Memory-Making Mom by Jessica Smartt has been on my TBR for quite a while, and I was excited to see that it’s available on Kindle Unlimited.
If you tuned into my August reading recap, I shared that this fall I was exploring new genres, and fantasy is one of them. I’m currently buddy-reading Fourth Wing with a friend on Fable. I’m listening to it on audio and it reads like a movie. I definitely get the hype — I am hooked.
One of the other subgenres I’m exploring this fall is cowboy romances. That’s why I was excited when my Done and Dusted hold became available on Libby. We’ll see if this one is also worth the hype.
I’m always sharing my thoughts in real time on Fable and Instagram. For ratings and reviews, check out my Goodreads.

As I mentioned, it’s Gilmore Girl re-watching season! Although this podcast is out of syndication, I enjoyed listening to the hosts discuss all things Gilmore Girls.
This episode was a good one. Between preparing to relocate and getting ready for our family’s celebration season (birthdays, anniversary, holidays, etc.), feeling overwhelmed is an understatement. I appreciated Kendra’s grounding tips on navigating overwhelm during busy and hard seasons.

The “ber” months are here! In celebration, I wanted to share an essay I wrote around this time last year. For me, fall brings so much comfort and anticipation, but even in in that anticipation, there are opportunities to be grounded as we prepare and enter into a new season.
“I find comfort in the rhythms, routines, and traditions of the fall season. The fall candles and decor, pumpkin spice lattes, sweater weather, Gilmore Girl re-runs, soups, and chili — these fall comforts are like a warm embrace after a long journey back home. With warmth and hospitality, I am greeted and invited to slow down, reflect gratitude, and relish the comforts of the season before I am jovially ushered into end-of-year tidings.”
