Happy Saturday, friends!
While I typically try to share a quick reflection, I don’t have much for this week. It’s been a quiet, rainy week in these parts, and I guess my spirit has followed suit. While I did launch my second Substack newsletter and shared a post that has been on my heart for a while, I’ve been pretty quiet too — listening to my body — resting, reading, and reflecting on how I want to show up in the spaces God has called me to.
With that being said, this week’s (Joy)Cap is pretty quick and concise. However, I would love to know what’s been new with you. What brought you joy or how did you see God at work this week? Share with us in our weekly thread.
What Brought Me Joy ✨
Spending time with my childhood friend. Now that our car is fixed, I’ve been doing my best to get the kids out of the house more. On Wednesday, I loaded the kids in the car to visit one of my childhood best friends. Our kids played, she and I got to catch up, and it was a nice way to break up the day.
Reading and eating outside. During the kids’ naptime, I love to take a break outside. I just ordered a LoveHandle as a part of my Mother’s Day gift to myself, and I can’t wait until it comes in, so I can have something to prop up my Kindle while I read and eat.
Making connections and sharing my reading life on the Fable App. My sister and I are doing a buddy read through the Fable app, and I have been pleasantly surprised by the user experience. At first, I was a little confused navigating the app, but I fell in love once I got everything set up and discovered the reader insights and community features. I’ve been sharing my daily reading updates and pictures and have connected with other readers through the app. It may sound very bookish and nerdy (which it probably is 😂), but it has brought me so much joy to connect with a community that shares a common love and interest — books!
Currently Reading 📚
I finally finished The Ministry of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson and Well at Work by Esther Sternberg, MD.
I’m still reading through Tom Lake by Ann Patchett with my sister. Again, highly recommend using Fable for buddy reads.
I also started reading The Magic of Lemon Drop Pie by Rachel Linden, and I have been really enjoying it so far. It reminds me of The Good Part, which was one of my March favorites. I’ve already cried, highlighted, and shared some deep quotes, and I’m not even halfway through. It might be too early to say, but I can easily see it becoming one of my favorites for the year.

If you’re tempted and need a reminder that everything is on you to make happen, it’s not. 🫶🏾 In this episode, Shelby and Krystal unpack how we can address this mindset and lie from a biblical perspective.

I took a nice walk in a new park and Mother's day at a castle have been my favorite.
Thanks for the recommendation of the Fable app Janelle, I haven't heard about it before but have just downloaded it and it seems great! It's imported all my Goodreads list too and I like that there's a community aspect on there too
