How do you navigate through and cope with life’s busy moments? During those rare moments when life amps up when schedules get packed, work gets busy, and to-do lists topple over the top, I tend to activate my tunnel vision to carry me through. Usually having a self-imposed deadline or date helps. I always say, “I just have to make it past x date.”
This week I found myself deploying that tunnel vision as I took on a new coaching client, spoke on a panel yesterday, and prepared for a speaking engagement this upcoming Tuesday, all on top of potty training my daughter 🤪. I just have to make it to March 12th.
So that’s what this week has looked like — less writing and more tending to my current obligations and preparing for the week ahead. While I didn’t write much, I still did my best to track down joy and notice God at work even in the chaotic moments.
How did you see God at work this week? Join us in the group chat and share with us one thing that brought you joy.
Now let’s get into this week’s full (Joy)Cap. ✨
What Brought Me Joy ✨
Seeing how well my daughter is transitioning to the potty. I started potty training my daughter Kailey last week, and she’s been doing better than I expected! While she has had some minor accidents (which is to be expected) she has been having a much easier time than her older brother, which has been encouraging given his challenges.
My daughter’s little hair puffs. We are finally at pigtail/puff hair length, and I am loving this little style on her. Between the puffs and the potty training, my little girl is growing up, and I’m not ready 🥹.
The sunshine returned on Thursday. It’s been a rainy week here in Georgia. We had three days of straight rain, so I was grateful for the sunny 70-degree weather yesterday.
A great panel discussion. This week I was invited to be on my colleague Dr. Andrea Bowens-Jones's lunchtime panel, the Brown Bag Series, which are conversations designed to inspire, challenge, and educate. I had the pleasure of speaking on authenticity in the workplace. I have a speaking engagement next week on Tuesday, so this was a great warm-up for my presentation next week.
This DW bookmark. I ordered this about a month ago from this cute little Etsy shop and it finally came in. Every time I look at it, it reminds me of my childhood and my daughter (she definitely gives DW energy 🥴🤣)
Currently Reading 📚
I’m still making progress on Adam Grant’s Hidden Potential1, but this week I finished reading Enough About Me by Jen Oshman and The Favor by Adele Griffin. I picked up The Favor a few weeks ago from the library on a whim, and I was pleasantly surprised! Vintage seller, Nora Hammond, ends up meeting Manhattan socialite, Evelyn Elliot as Evelyn searches for a last-minute dress. The two connect over a shared interest in poetry and end up bound for life by an unexpected favor. A very charming and witty story about the beauty of friendship and how it can unfold in surprising ways. This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens is next up on my list.

I love how the Lord led me to start doing these (Joy)Caps and then Jenna did this episode. The reality is life be life-ing, and it’s so easy to highlight the hard in the struggle. In this episode, Jenna shares how you can practically go on a joy hunt looking for the good and seeing God at work every day.
I was also encouraged this week by this episode of the Journeywomen podcast. In this episode, Bible teacher and author Elizabeth Woodsen shares the benefits of routinely going back to the basics — rehearsing and reminding ourselves of the gospel truth and how it impacts our daily lives. Here are some notable nuggets from the episode:
“Salvation does ensure our eternal destiny, but it also means something for the here and now as well.”
“Who I am only makes sense when I am connected to who God says I should be.”
Fave Substack Read of the Week 💻
Lately, I’ve been thinking about what other hobbies I would like to take on outside of reading and writing, so this piece on How Hobbies Help Us Carry On by
was right on time.“Wonder reminds me that my circumstances are indeed light and momentary, that there is a weight of glory that will catapult them into oblivion. That, though the to-do list never stops, I can. That, though the emotions are heavy, I can always receive a moment of lightness.”
