Happy Sunday, friends!
I had meant to get this up sooner, but I really needed to take a few mental health days, because it was just one of those weeks. Not necessarily a bad one, but one that requires an extra stretch of your faith. But I’m grateful. Grateful for growth.
Sometimes you can’t see the growth, the maturity that has taken until after the fact. You notice the change in your initial reactions and responses, at least for me, I do. What once would threaten to take me out, I can now acknowledge and address without the anxiety pulling me under. What I once would ruminate and spiral over, I now pray and petition about.
The longer I walk with Christ, the more I am starting to understand the wise words of missionary and author Elisabeth Elliot that Ruth Chou Simons quoted in her most recent book, Now and Not Yet, “‘The secret is Christ in me, not in a different set of circumstances.’ God is the God of the way through… through himself.”
So as I wade through the tension of these circumstances, I remind myself like, Paul, I can do all things that strengthen me by learning to be content in all things, pray in all things, and as a result, experience His peace in all things.
"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” | Philippians 4:6-7
What Brought Me Joy ✨
My husband being home for Mother’s Day. I’ve shared before that my husband is a regional truck driver. This year was his first day off for Mother’s Day in a few years. We didn’t do much — I had a personal reading retreat in my room and enjoyed a slice of Publix’s red velvet cake — but I was grateful he was home.
My newly made over Kindle. In last week’s (Joy)Cap, I shared that I had purchased a LoveHandle for my Kindle as a part of my Mother’s Day gift. I’ve been wanting to decorate my Kindle for quite some time now, so for Mother’s Day, I treated myself to the LoveHandle, a skin, and some cute stickers. I’m obsessed with the final product. 😍 Every time I look at it, it brings me so much joy.
Currently Reading 📚
This week I finished The Magic of Lemon Drop Pie, Tom Lake, and I finished The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood today.
I had seen so many good things about Now and Not Yet by Ruth Chou Simons on my Goodreads feed, and honestly this book is just what I need in this season. I’m about four chapters in and have already highlighted, underlined, and tabbed so many paragraphs. So much of what Ruth speaks about in this book aligns with what the Lord has been teaching me over the last few years and what I’ve been sharing here on Substack. If you’re in a season of waiting or pining for more, this book will be the perfect balm for you in this season.
I’ve been following Nicole since the beginning of my entrepreneurship journey back in 2016. I have been looking forward to reading her recent memoir, so I was excited to see it available on Libby. I love listening to memoirs where the author narrates and was happy to discover that she narrates this one.

This was such an interesting episode to listen to. The more I move away from consuming self-help, the more I find myself inspired by hearing about other people’s creative journeys. In this episode, artist and author Katrina Rodabaugh shares her journey of sustainability and creativity and how this journey and its dynamics have influenced her motherhood and work.
I have been curating a mental summer TBR for the last few months. Many of the ones on my list, were also shared in this episode along with others I’m looking forward to reading. If you’re looking for some good summer/beach reads, definitely check out this episode.
I would love to hear from you! What brought you joy this week? Leave a comment or send me a direct message!
