🍂 Your Fall Reset Reading List
9 Books to Help You Reset Your Life, Spirit, & Home This Fall 📚
Fall always feels like an invitation to slow down and take stock of what’s working, what’s not, and where God may be calling us to realign. If you’ve been craving a fresh start, here are nine books that echo the heart behind my upcoming Reset, Refresh, Renew Lifestyle Guide, which launches next week on September 22nd (the first day of fall! 🍂).
Think of this reading list as a companion to the guide and your reset, which is right around the corner! Considering the content of the guide, I’ve grouped these books into three themes that I feel support the reset, refreshment, and renewal that the guide offers: Personal Effectiveness, Faithful Living, and Habits & Traditions.
🗒️ Personal Effectiveness
Sometimes, what we need most isn’t another life hack but a deeper sense of clarity regarding what matters most and how to best leverage and steward our time. These books will help you cut through the noise, get clear on your vision, manage your time, and make decisions that align with your purpose and values.
How to Get Unstuck by Matt Perman | We often think we’re stuck because of our goals, but more often it’s because we lack clarity about mission and direction. In this book, Perman walks you through the discipline of personal effectiveness using gospel-centered principles that go beyond surface-level productivity, helping you step into purpose with confidence.
What’s Best Next by Matt Perman | This book takes productivity a step further, showing how to prioritize and follow through on the things that truly matter using time management, scheduling, rhythms, and routines. In addition to this, Perman tackles distractions like procrastination and multitasking while reframing productivity as a way to serve God and others. I’ve revisited this one more than once, and it always meets me where I’m at.
The Best Yes by Lysa TerKeurst | If you’ve ever found yourself stretched too thin from saying yes to everything or have a hard time discerning your decisions, this book is for you. Lysa offers spiritual insight, as well as a practical decision-making framework for discerning God’s best yes for your life. In this book, Lysa reminds us that every yes is a no to something else, so we ought to make our yeses count.
🌿 Faithful Living
Life rarely moves at our desired pace, but always according to God’s perfect timing. These books remind us of God’s faithfulness in the middle of waiting, growth, and change, and invite us to live fully right where we are.
The Seasons of God by Richard Blackaby | Blackaby shows how just as God has purposes for the seasons of nature, He uses life’s seasons to shape us for His glory. This book offers practical insight into discerning what God may be doing in your life and how to respond faithfully. This is a read you’ll find yourself returning to again and again as new chapters of life unfold.
Now and Not Yet by Ruth Chou Simons | Ruth has a way of speaking directly to that in-between space of longing for what’s ahead while still living faithfully in the here and now. With her signature blend of artistry and wisdom, she helps us see that waiting seasons aren’t wasted seasons. This is the kind of book you’ll want to savor slowly as you navigate your season.
Everyday Faithfulness by Glenna Marshall | Glenna reflects beautifully on how God’s timing shapes our growth and discipleship. The daily liturgy of showing up, putting one foot forward, and submitting our dreams and desires along with the challenges that come with the everyday — these are the grounds where faithfulness flourishes. In this book, Glenna humbly points us back to the gospel as we build and flex our muscles of faith. Her writing serves as a reminder that the seasons of transition, pruning, and flourishing are all a part of God’s good work in our lives.
🏡 Habits & Traditions
Our days are made of small choices and rhythms. These books help reimagine habits and traditions as opportunities to shape our lives, families, and homes around what matters most.
The Common Rule by Justin Whitmel Earley | When we think of habits, we don’t realize what we are creating are liturgies — patterns of repeated words, thoughts, and behaviors that reflect our life and ultimately our worship. In this book, Justin shares a framework for building intentional daily and weekly habits, or liturgies of everyday living, that breathe life and establish order. Earley offers simple, practical practices that create space for what matters most and gently push back against busyness and distraction.
Habits of the Household by Justin Whitmel Earley | Habits of the Household is a follow-up to the Common Rule, zooming in on family life (think: marriage, discipline, bedtime, screentime, meal times, and rhythms of work, rest, and play). Helping you reimagine habits as household liturgies, it’s filled with tangible ideas for creating grace-filled rhythms in the everyday chaos of parenting and home life.
Memory-Making Mom by Jessica Smartt | Traditions have a way of anchoring us, and Jessica inspires readers to be intentional about creating them. With practical suggestions and heartfelt encouragement, she illustrates how memory-making can shape family culture and bring joy to even ordinary moments. I also appreciate the appendix, which suggests traditions to implement for holidays and other seasons.
Whether you’re longing for a reset, a fresh perspective, or meaningful rhythms at home, these reads will meet you where you are as we enter the last stretch of the year
