This week was a bit of a whirlwind. I spent last Friday running around grabbing last-minute things for the twins’ birthday and Saturday tidying up and cleaning before my parents got into town. The twins’ birthday was on Sunday, and since then we’ve just been hanging out as a family.
Lately, I haven’t had much time and space to sit, reflect, and write. I was sharing with a friend this week that I wish I had more mental capacity to show up, write, and share. When I get those rare moments to myself, they are a far and few in between. An hour here. An hour there. And when I do get an hour to myself, oftentimes words are hard to come by. Twenty to thirty minutes of that hour is spent decompressing and collecting my thoughts.
Sometimes by the end of the hour, I might have a few paragraphs of undeveloped thoughts and ideas. I think about how I would like to share more here and on social media, but my days as a primary, solo parent leave me exhausted. I know this season is temporary, but we are here for now.
So without further adieu, here are the thoughts and words I could muster up this week.
This week’s (Joy)Cap is a quick one!
What Brought Me Joy ✨
Seeing my babies turn two 🥹. I can’t believe that my babies are two! On the one hand, it feels like they were just born, but on the other, I see two years of growing, learning, and becoming as they step even more into their little personalities. It’s always a bittersweet feeling watching your babies grow.
A much-needed solo coffee date ☕️. While my parents are in town, I am taking advantage of the free childcare as long as I have it. On Wednesday, I got out of the house and went to downtown Lawrenceville to spend the morning at my favorite coffee shop. I got an iced french toast latte (which tastes much better than it sounds) and then popped into the used bookstore down the street. I used my credits to snag one of the kids’ favorite books that was previously ripped.
Watching the kids play at the park, enjoying the spring weather ☀️ After I came home from the coffee shop, my parents and I loaded the kids up and took them to the park. Due to my injury and our second car being in the shop, I haven’t been able to get the kids outside as much as I would like. It was nice to get out of the house and watch them explore and play.
Storytime at the library 📚. This was the kids’ first storytime experience. Yesterday, we decided to check out a different library in a nearby town, and they ended up having a storytime for the kids while we were there. I found myself tearing up, watching the kids sing, read, and run around and play with the other children. It was like their first day of school send-off flashed before my eyes, and I wasn’t ready 🥺.
While we were there, I took advantage of the time and picked up a stack for them and a stack for myself to take home.
Currently Reading 📚
This week I flew through five books 🫢. A part of that was finishing Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid and The Good Part by Sophie Cousens. Another part of that was starting the Improbable Meet-Cute novellas after learning from
that they are free through Amazon Prime. I just started the Loveliest Chocolate Shop in Paris by Jenny Colgan from my recent library haul, and I’m still making my way through Purposefooled by Kelly Needham.
Happy Birthday to your twins! I shared in the group chat but I can share again here. My daughter crawling and her first tooth showing up was my joy this week.❤️
