Happy Friday, friends!
This has been a busy week for me here over on Substack. If you missed it, I shared my first monthly reading recap, wrapping up the books I read in July, and I posted my usual monthly reflection.
So between all the writing and wading through some personal things that came up this week, I am fresh out of words. This week’s (Joy)Cap is short and sweet. Take the time to catch up on this week’s posts
What Brought Me Joy ✨
My husband’s first attempt at making homemade biscuits. My husband’s schedule shifted again, so he was home on Wednesday evening and decided to make dinner and homemade biscuits on a whim. They turned out pretty good for his first time, and more importantly, I didn’t have to cook! 😩🙌🏾👏🏾🤣
Sharing my first monthly reading recap. I am so grateful for the feedback I received on the July reading recap. I absolutely love chatting about all things books. This one was a little long, but let me know how you feel about the length. I’ve been debating on whether I should include the synopsis of the books, or if I should just solely share my thoughts to keep the audio short. If you have a preference, let me know!
Hearing my baby girl say “I love you too, Mommy!” This is the first time I’ve heard her say it back without prompting. She’s one who likes to play hard to get, so this just absolutely melted my Mama heart. 🥹
Currently Reading 📚
This week I finished The Townsend Family Recipe for Disaster1 by Shauna Robinson. This was the perfect cozy summer read. If you like books with themes on food, family, sisterhood, and love, you will enjoy this one.
I borrowed Unshakeable Hope by Max Lucado on Libby based on my Mom’s recommendation. I am familiar with Max Lucado’s children’s books, but this is my first time ever reading anything of his.
Motherhood Without All the Rules by Maggie Combs. This is my Moody publisher’s pick from their reviewer program. I’m looking forward to getting into this one, as I can always use some encouragement and guidance in this area.
Summer Ever After by Kourtney Keisel. I came across this sweet rom-com series while browsing through titles on Kindle Unlimited. While I am starting to wrap up my summer reading, I didn’t think it would hurt to give it a try.
The Housemaid’s Secret by Freida McFadden. I was in the mood for a thriller yesterday, so I wanted to continue the next one in the Housemaid series. I’m only five chapters in, and I can already tell that it’s going to be some mess.
I’m always sharing my thoughts in real-time on Fable and Instagram. For ratings and reviews, check out my Goodreads.
Fave Substack Read of the Week 💻
Well, this is not a post, but I love this Note and graphic shared by
. It’s giving sorry, not sorry — I’m busy doing the things that matter. Also, as I wade through some murky waters, I am reminded of a post I shared here about a year ago on Substack on finding peace and pursuing presence in the messy middle. If you’re like me, longing for the next season, may this encourage you to find peace and presence right where you are.
“I can’t change the season, but I can change my perspective. I can hold onto hope and anticipate the future while pursuing peace and presence in the messy middle. Not by looking back to the past or forward to the future, but by being present, looking up, and noticing the small things God is doing not only around me but in me.”

Hoooray on the biscuits and not having to cook that night! I have an amazing biscuit recipe from a very old cookbook that was my grandmother's. They come out so high and fluffy - seems to be a fall recipe for me to go with soups or chili.
